GENERAL
Summary:
Provides professional care for acutely ill and injured patients incorporating the education and skills learned as a certified paramedic for all age groups in ground ambulance pre-hospital and hospital environment.
Is guided by MercyOne Ambulance protocols or direct medical control.

Security Access:
High Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient information and must comply with the terms of the Mercy Medical Center Security Policies as it applies to their job role.

Essential Functions:
oAssess patients with a variety of medical conditions or injuries.
oPrepares patient care reports with 24 hours of completing the ambulance trip.
oTriages, prioritizes, and anticipates patients' needs.
Develops a plan of care.
oProvides ongoing evaluation, altering the plan of care as indicated.
Documents findings and interventions.
oImplements interventions consistent with protocols documenting response to treatment.
oPrepares equipment and supplies.
Checks medical equipment and supplies on a daily basis, restocking and cleaning the rig after each transport.
oOperates required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.
oProvides stand-by EMS service at events.
oAssists with station duties.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
oAssists with the mentoring of students affiliated with the School of EMS.
oProvides patient care in the Emergency Department or critical care units when not performing functions related to the ambulance services.
oAssists in meeting requests for difficult peripheral line insertions for hospital in-patients.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
oHigh school diploma preferred or high school equivalency.
oCurrent certification as a Paramedic in the State of Iowa required.
oBasic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
oAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
oProof of completion of Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
oPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training required within three (3) months of hireoValid drivers required.
Must meet Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, be at least 18 years of age, and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
oEmergency Vehicle Operations training within six (6) months of hire.
